As per the local media reports and videos doing the rounds on social media, a sitting Democratic state Rep. from Georgia was detained by state troopers shortly after a bill got passed by Republican Governor Brian Kemp bringing restrictive voting rights bill into law. 

Video shows the policemen handcuffing Rep. Park Cannon after she knocked the doors of the chamber where Gov. Kemp was signing a law that limits access to the polls and makes it even easier to influence lawful elections. Cannon was one of several protestors outside the governor’s chamber.

The lawmaker was with several other protestors outside the governor’s chamber when she knocked at his chamber’s door, saying the public should be allowed to witness the announcement of the passing law. The legislation requires ID for absentee ballots, limits drop boxes and changes early voting hours.

Later, the troopers forcibly removed Cannon, who is the Democrat Rep. from Atlanta, pulling her through Capitol and pushing her into a police car.

The charges against the Democrat Rep. are still unclear. According to. When other protestors continuously kept asking that why were they arresting the Rep.? As per the video, one of the protestors even asked the troopers to cite the code under which she was being arrested but  the state police didn’t utter a word.

Many people have came out on media and social media platforms to protest against the arrest of the elected official. The US Senator from Georgia Jon Ossoff took to his twitter and said, “I stand with Georgia State Rep. Park Cannon (@Cannonfor58), who was arrested and CHARGED WITH A FELONY for … for what?

For *knocking on Gov. Kemp’s office door* as she tried to observe the cowardly closed-door signing ceremony for the voter suppression law.”

Other Representatives from throughout the country cam together to stand with Cannon and ask the reason for her wrongful arrest.
