The Georgia senate runoff elections concluded after a close fight between Democratic incumbent Raphael Warnock and Republican candidate Herschel Walker.   

Walker, a former NFL running back lost to Warnock in the elections and conceded in a speech on Wednesday, December 7.

In his concession speech, Walker said, “I would believe in America, I continue to believe in the constitution, I believe in our officials, most of all, continue to pray for them because all the prayers you’ve given me, I felt those prayers.”

As he thanked everyone for their support, Walker said, “There’s no excuses in life. I’m not gonna make an excuse as now, we put up one heck of a fight.” Continuing his speech, he said, “I told someone this the other day, I’ve done a lot of stuff, you talk about trophies, talk about all the athletic awards, business awards I’ve won, but the best thing I’ve ever done in my whole entire life is run for this senate seat right here.”

His speech was met with cheers from the audience as Walker explained, “And the reason I’m gonna say that is I had a chance to meet all of you and hear what you guys feel about this country. I thank you so much and as I say you can blame no one because I want you to continue to believe in this country, believe in our officials, and most of all, stay together. Don’t let anyone separate you, don’t let anyone tell you that we can’t because I’m here to tell you we can.”

Walker’s heartwarming and positive speech attracted people’s praise even after the candidate lost the election. Many people appreciated his speech as one Twitter user wrote “Continue to believe in the constitution. Going to commend Herschel Walker on his concession speech, it was actually quite good.”

Another user wrote, “He sounded like a real American. Still proud and still standing even in Defeat.”
