After the season finale of the first season, the show was pulled off the network, only to return for a second season on March 31, 2012. Andre was prominently featured on the show. His moving to St. Louis from Texas, problems at school, and also a visit to the grave of his father were documented in the series.

When the show ended after its ninth season, a total of 100 episodes had been released alongside two holiday specials, one behind-the-scenes special, and another cast reunion special in 2018.

The show has won a few awards along the way. In 2013 and 2016, it bagged the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Reality Series.

Interest in the show is expected to gather steam once again after the conviction of Norman. His sentencing has been scheduled for December 15, 2022. The 43-year-old can be sentenced to life in prison.
