Wes Moore, 44,
the Maryland Democrat has won the state’s gubernatorial race. Moore is the
first Black governor of the state of Maryland. His wife, Aruna Miller, was his
running mate. She too won the Lieutenant Governor polls to become the first
Indian-American to win the LG race in the state. Lieutenant Governor is the
second most important post in a state’s hierarchy. The LG assumes powers of the
governor if the governor is incapacitated.

Moore: Age and family

Wes Moore,
the new Maryland Governor-elect, was born on October 15, 1978. A politician,
banker, author and television producer, Wes Moore wears several hats. The
Maryland politician was born in Takoma Park, Maryland but raised largely in New
York.

Wes Moore’s
father, William Westley Moore Jr., was a broadcast news journalist. His mother,
Joy Thomas Moore, too was a media professional.  

It was
after his father’s death that Moore’s mother took him and his two sisters to
live in the Bronx, New York.

Moore did
his bachelors’ degree from Johns Hopkins University and received a master’s
degree from Wolfson College, Oxford.

After serving
in the US Army and the Army Reserve, Moore settled down as an investment
banker.

Wes Moore
is married to Dawn Moore (nee Flythe). The couple lived in Baltimore in 2006.
They married on July 6, 2007. As a married couple, the Moores bought a
million-dollar home in the Guilford community in north Baltimore.

Moore: Running mate

Wes Moore
contested the 2022 US midterms with Aruna Miller as his running mate. While
Moore is the first Black person to ever become the Maryland governor, Aruna
Miller is the first Indian-American to be elected Lieutenant Governor of the
state.

Aruna
Miller, 58, the Maryland LG-elect, was born in the Indian state of Andhra
Pradesh. She and her family came to the US when she was seven years old. Miller
has a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering from the Missouri
University of Science and Technology.
