Several civil rights and news media organizations objected to the law as a violation of free speech protections.

“Dear police officers: Take this as another sign the ones who control most states don’t actually care about you. If they did, they’d get the guns off the streets that are a threat to you each day and night or pass bills actually paying you more/giving you better benefits. This bill is unconstitutional drivel meant to say “We back the blue” while doing nothing to make you safer or your family better off. I’m surprised it wasn’t proposed in Missouri,” Lucas tweeted.
