Republican Patrick Morrisey, the Attorney General of West Virginia, said on Thursday that he will sue the Biden Administration over the recent gun control measures proposed by the President.

Morrisey said in a statement, “Defending the Second Amendment remains one of the most important priorities for the West Virginia Attorney General’s Office. I will not allow the far left to run roughshod over our citizens’ gun rights. If President Biden follows through on his proposals, we will be in court very quickly.”

The Second Amendment of the United States constitution allows American citizens to legally possess arms.

While Morrisey said that “senseless death” should be attributed to gun violence, he maintained that “the evil acts of a select few should never be a catalyst for stripping the lawful masses of their constitutional rights, especially their right to self-defence and to bear arms.”

While at the White House Rose Garden, President Biden announced a set of measures aimed at curbing the menace created due to gun violence.

He proposed measures to introduce a “red flag” legislation in states that could help in keeping possibly dangerous individuals away from firearms. He also directed the Justice Department to recommend rules that would subject an individual to background checks while purchasing”ghost guns”.

The 46th President of the US took to Twitter to reiterate the efforts being made by his administration.

My Administration is taking initial steps to reduce gun violence, including:

– Stopping the proliferation of ghost guns
– Regulating pistols modified with a stabilizing brace
– Helping states adopt red flag laws
– Supporting community violence interventions

Biden also asked the Justice Department to issue a gun trafficking report. This will be the first report in five years. He is set to nominate David Chipman, a gun control advocate to lead the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

The President urged Congress to pass the gun control measures soon.
