André Leon Talley, an American journalist and the former
creative director of Vogue magazine on Tuesday died at a hospital in White Plains, New York at the age of 73.

Back in the 80s and
90s, André gained prominence for his exceptional contribution into building the
popular magazine, Vogue. André became the editor and the creative director and
remained a vital part of the magazine until 2013.

The fashion journalist
also worked with the Obamas as the family’s stylist during Barrack Obama’s
presidential reign.

 The icon’s death came
as a big shock to the fashion industry. André gained most of his net worth through
his fashion business and the shares he owned in other fashion firms.

According to Vimbuzz, André’s net worth is approximately $3 million.

André was born in Durham, North Carolina. After graduating
from North Carolina Central University, he pursued a degree in the French
language from Brown University. Soon after, André moved to New York City to work
as an assistant to Andy Warhol, an American artist.

He then went on to join Vogue as the Editor-at-large and the
creative director. He played a key role in popular fashion shows including New York
Fashion Week.

After stepping down from Vogue, the icon joined ‘America’s Next Top
Model’ as a judge. He also worked in a Russian fashion magazine after his Vogue
tenure.

André also wrote his autobiography, ‘ALT:
A Memoir’, and authored ALT: 365+, an art monograph featuring pictorial snippets
from his life.

In 2018, the fashion icon revealed he was “broke”, according to a New York
Times profile.

According to reports, André was evicted from his New York home in
February 2021 after being unable to pay $500,000 worth of rent.

The fashion legend passed away today at a hospital in White Plains, New York.
The cause of his death is undetermined for now.
