Liz Cheney, the U.S. House of Representatives from Wyoming’s at-large district, has lost the Republican Party’s primary election to Harriet Hageman, who was endorsed by former President Donald Trump. Cheney has said to NBC’s Today that the party is swayed towards Trump’s “cult of personality”. Politico reports that the lawmaker is now looking to launch a new organization that will work towards ensuring that Trump does not get to file his nomination to become US President once again.

Cheney’s spokesperson, Jeremy Adler, said to Politico’s Playbook, “In coming weeks, Liz will be launching an organization to educate the American people about the ongoing threat to our Republic, and to mobilize a unified effort to oppose any Donald Trump campaign for president”.

Notably, this organization can become the political vehicle that Cheney needs in order to run for the presidency herself in 2024. Her campaign has also filed papers to make campaign committee into a political action committee (PAC) called The Great Task, which was also the name for Cheney’s last campaign advertisement. If turned into a PAC, the organization will be able to continue raising funds and distributing the same among candidates with a similar vision. You can check out the video of the same right here:

Regarding the reason that made her come out in vocal opposition against Trump, the congresswoman said to Today that some things “have got to be above politics”. She also added, “there’s no political office that is more important than the principles that we take an oath to defend”.

Notably, Cheney, who is the daughter of former US Vice President Dick Cheney, had voted in favour of impeaching Trump after the January 6 Capitol attacks. She was also the leader of the House committee that was convened to investigate the attacks. Experts believe that Cheney lost the GOP primary after losing Trump’s favour and being one of the primary subjects of his attacks during the midterms.
