A local councilwoman in New Jersey was shot dead outside her home Wednesday evening. She was identified as Sayreville Councilwoman Eunice Dwumfour, a 30-year-old Republican.
Mayor Victoria Kilpatrick described her as a “dedicated member of our Borough Council who was truly committed to serve all of our residents.”
Dwumfour was found dead in her vehicle with multiple gunshot wounds.

“This is an active and ongoing investigation anyone with information or surveillance footage of the area is asked to call Detective Rebecca Morales of the Sayreville Police Department at 732-727-4444 or Detective Michelle Coppola of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office 732-745-3477,” the prosecutor’s office said. Kilpatrick called the shooting a “despicable criminal act.”

Sayreville is a borough in Middlesex County in New Jersey and is said to be the heart of the Raritan Valley region, located on the south banks of the Raritan River. It is also located on Raritan Bay.

As of the 2020 United States census, the borough’s population was 45,345. It was originally incorporated as a township on April 6, 1876. On April 2, 1919, the borough was reincorporated as the Borough of Sayreville. It was ratified by a referendum held on April 29, 1919. It is governed under the Borough form of New Jersey municipal government.
