The White House on Monday celebrated Easter spirit as a staffer appeared at the media room dressed as the Easter bunny while press secretary Jen Psaki was giving her briefing.
The bunny, which was life sized and wore a mask as a precaution during the coronavirus pandemic, distributed commemorative eggs and chocolates to reporters in the room, according to ANI.
While the bunny was walking towards the podium, Psaki said, “We have a special guest. I will say that we know that this is one of the events where people get to take their children, family members, friends to.”
She added, “It’s not quite the same. We’ll do a big one next year, but we still wanted to have a visitor and some special commemorative Easter eggs for all of you from the president and First Lady.”
The Easter bunny had also made an appearance while President Joe Biden was delivering his remarks marking the Easter holiday instead of the traditional White House Easter Egg Roll. The Easter Egg Roll was cancelled for the second time due to the pandemic.
White House director of message planning Meghan Hays later revealed that she was playing the role of Easter bunny this year. She said in a tweet, “Is this what they mean when they say “other duties as assigned”?! So great to stop by @PressSec’s briefing today. Happy Easter!”
