Who are news anchors Holly Thompson and Amanda Hara?

As they broke the terrible news on WSMV in Nashville, the anchors had a hard time staying composed. When Holly Thompson attempted to relay the shattering news that an active shooter had been verified dead and that other children had also died in the attack, she was overcome with grief and found it difficult to talk. “Oh my goodness!”, she exclaimed, brimming with emotion.

Sympathies were offered by Thompson, who said, “My heart is just hurting right now. Thoughts and prayers for these families.”

The show was momentarily taken over by her co-anchor Amanda Hara before being handed off to reporter Michael Warrick, who was standing outside the studio.

Later, Thompson made a second appearance and had to comfort Hara, who was struggling to contain her tears as she talked about how families were unable to get any real-time updates on the safety of their children as the horror was taking place. “There are just so many questions and people wanting to know what was actually happening,’ she began, her voice audibly breaking. ‘There really are no words.”

Hara also broke down in tears earlier in the show as she described how her own children’s schools had gone into lockdown as a precaution, further adding to the dread of the whole scenario.

In the aftermath of the tragedy in Nashville, President Joe Biden urged Congress once more to enact his assault weapons ban. “It’s heartbreaking, a family’s worst nightmare,’ he said. ‘It’s ripping at the soul of this nation, ripping at the very soul of this nation.”
