Illinois paramedics Peggy Finley and Peter Cadigan were arrested by the Springfield Police Department after one of their patients died from positional asphyxiation.

In a statement, Springfield Police Department said that a 911 call had reported to them on December 18 that a patient “was suffering hallucinations due to alcohol withdrawal,” which prompted them to visit said patient’s house and call for medical assistance.

This is when Finley, 44, and Cadigan, 50, showed up. It is believed that their negligence in handling the patient resulted in the latter’s death.

Peggy Finley and Peter Cadigan are two paramedics who were called to the house of Earl L. Moore, Jr. in Springfield, Illinois by the police after a co-resident called 911 regarding Moore’s “hallucinations due to alcohol withdrawal”.

According to her LinkdIn profile, Finley worked as a paramedic for FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) for two months in 2021.

Cadigan’s profile on the platform says that he works for a company called Lifestar Ambulance as an Emergency Medical Technician.

CNN reports that bodycam footage from police officials shows Finley being unprofessional towards Moore. In the video, she can be heard saying to Moore, “You’re gonna have to walk ‘cause we ain’t carrying you!” “I am seriously not in the mood for this dumb sh*t,” she continued.

The policemen then helped Finley and Cadigan to take Moore out of the house and into the ambulance. However, the way that he was strapped in into the ambulance is what the coroner’s report suggests the reason for death was.

According to the report, “compressional and positional asphyxia due to prone facedown restraint on a paramedic transportation cot/stretcher by tightened straps across back and lower body in the setting of lethargy and underlying chronic alcoholism” is what led to Moore’s death.

Following this revelation, Finley and Cadigan were arrested for first-degree murder. They are both being held on $1 million bails each at the Sangamon County Detention Facility.
