Four students from Buffalo Grove High School were killed in a major multi-vehicle crash in Wheeling on Tuesday night.

Who are Richard De-Ita, Kevin Hernandez-Teran, Jesus Rodriguez?

The three victims in the incident have been identified as Richard De-Ita 18, Kevin Hernandez-Teran 17, and Jesus Rodriguez 16. The police said the cause of the crash appears to be disregarded traffic signal and speed.

The High School District 214’s spokesperson Stephanie Kim in a statement said “It is with the deepest sorrow that we confirm that four Buffalo Grove High School students were killed, and one student remains hospitalized, in what police are describing as a multi-car crash Tuesday night in Wheeling. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of these students during this time of tragedy.”

The accident occurred at the intersection of Dundee and Schoenbeck roads at around 10:19 p.m., according to police officials. Seven people were freed from the cars and rushed to the area hospitals. The deceased were the occupants of the primary vehicle involved in the crash.

Police said electricity was out for residents near the crash scene and was restored at around 11:20 p.m. on Tuesday night, and drivers were asked to find different routes as the intersection was shut.

One neighbor heard the crash, John Vinci said “Yeah, I was down the street, pretty close to here, the bang was loud and hit the light pole and the power went out on this whole block”, as reported by ABC7.

Wheeling Police Chief James Dunne extended his condolences to the families of the victims and social service workers are also in contact to support them. He also said that the probe is underway, and all the aspects of the crash will be examined carefully.
