Anastagia Carter, the principal of a Georgia elementary school, was detained last week and accused of several counts of child abuse after allegations that she had engaged in an unreported event with a student surfaced.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation reports that the principal was taken into custody last week on numerous counts of child abuse and false imprisonment.

Who is Anastagia Carter?

Anastagia Carter is a 51-year-old resident of Douglas who formerly served as the principal at a Georgia elementary school, as described by the authorities. She is currently charged with two counts of first-degree child abuse, two counts of third-degree child cruelty, two counts of false incarceration, and two counts of simple violence.

The allegations originate from several incidents that happened at Indian Creek Elementary School, according to the investigators.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI), was contacted by the Coffee County Board of Education when it was learned that Carter had been a part of an unreported incident involving a kid.

Authorities claim they discovered a second alleged crime while conducting their investigation. Post this, the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested Carter and took him into custody on February 24, 2023.

The exact event’s nature has not yet been made public.

The inquiry is still ongoing. The Waycross Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office will receive the case file from the GBI once it is finished for prosecution.

In a press release, GBI said, “The GBI was requested by the Coffee County Board of Education Police Department after they received information regarding an incident between Carter and a student.”

They added, “This investigation is active and ongoing. Once the investigation is complete, the case file will be given to the Waycross Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.”

Carter was taken into custody by the Coffee County Prison and then released on a $25,000 bond while detectives continue their investigation, according to Douglas Now.
