Who is Andrea Griffiths?

Andrea Griffiths is a 44-year-old former policewoman who worked in the eastern area of North Wales.

After it was discovered that she had a sexual relationship with a “vulnerable” man she was supposed to be taking care of in 2015, a disciplinary hearing for severe misconduct was arranged. Here, she was charged with having sex with the man, known as Mr. X, both on and off duty, but PC Griffiths claimed she only did so once.

Griffiths later admitted gross misconduct and expressed apologies to the misconduct panel in December 2019. The police officer issued a statement on his behalf, stating, “To avoid further embarrassment to everyone I have resigned forthwith from North Wales police.”

Currently, a tribunal hearing against the panel’s conclusion that “the only appropriate outcome for breaches of standards of professional behavior would have been that Ms. Griffiths would have been dismissed if she was still a serving police officer” has begun at the North Wales Police headquarters in Colwyn Bay.

The press and the public have been barred from the session. This is due to the request for a private appeal hearing made by PC Griffiths’ attorney. The request was granted ahead of the scheduled three-day hearing.

Chairman of the panel Michael Caplan KC said: ‘We have considered relevant medical evidence and have decided after careful consideration for the hearing to be in private. In due course our decision, but not necessarily all the reasons, will be given in public.’
