Since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic in
the US at large in March 2020, Andrew Cuomo, the Governor of New York, was noted
nationally for his daily COVID-19 briefings, as it supposedly brought some
amount of relief to the worst pandemic-affected country in the world.

After almost a year, at present, the situation has
drastically changed for Cuomo. He at the moment deals with the fallout from
several accusations of sexual harassment being brought against him by six women
so far, as well as a serious issue of underplaying the number of nursing home
deaths in New York in the earlier days of the coronavirus pandemic.

In light of the recent events, a journey of the
lawyer-politician and his origin seems vital to analyse the situation in
greater detail.

Born to Mario Cuomo and Matilda Raffa Cuomo in
Queens, New York, who were both Governor and First Lady of New York in their own
time, Andrew Cuomo graduated from Fordham University and Albany Law School of
Union University, before working alongside his father assistant district
attorney in the New York City. Shortly after he was appointed a chair of the New
York City Homeless Commission which he held from 1990 to 1993.

From serving in President Bill Clinton’s cabinet as
the Housing and Urban Development Secretary to introducing Same-sex marriage in
New York through Marriage Equality Act (2011) and NY Safe Act in 2013, one of the
strictest gun control laws in the US, the administrator has undoubtedly brought
in a few major changes.

The recent developments, therefore, might come as a
huge problem to Cuomo, who, as per various media reports, had set his sights on
taking up gubernatorial roles for the fourth time. Interestingly, it was a goal
that his father, Mario Cuomo, could never achieve, having lost to George Pataki
in 1994.

After the recent allegations, it would be safe to
say that the current Governor would not be getting his favoured ending either.
