Ashley Kalus won the Republican primary elections for the Rhode Island Governor. Ashley will be seeking office for the first time after defeating Jonathan Riccitelli in the elections. Ashley is also on the Republican ballot for the general elections that are scheduled to be held on November 8, 2022.

Who is Ashley Kalus? 

Ashley Kalus is a businesswoman and a healthcare executive and she attended the University of Massachusetts at Amherst for Finance and Legal Studies. She also earned master’s degrees from the London School of Economics and Columbia University.

At the age of 15 she started working as a waitress at a pizza shop. She dedicated herself to community service and civic engagement from an early age. She worked as a Pew Civic Engagement Fellow, a district court mediator and a Citizen Scholar. She has also been awarded the 21st Century Leadership Award for her effort in Community Service.

Ashley married Jeffrey Weinzweig in 2008 and they have three sons. The couple started a non-profit foundation Komedyplast in Rhode Island. This organization provides free surgery for children with craniofacial abnormalities throughout Peru.

Ashley Kalus now owns a Covid-19 testing company and she moved to Rhode Island last year from Illinois.

Ashley did not have prior exposure to politics as she dedicated herself to community development and entrepreneurship. She was a Golden Gloves boxer.

Ashley had previously worked for former Illinois Republican Gov. Bruce Rauner and she declared her candidacy in March 2022 for the primary elections of the Governor of Rhode Island.

As a Governor of Rhode Island, she will work to ensure that every parent can send their children to the best schools and will help common citizens by lowering their tax burden. She also promised to work for pro-job policies to spur economic growth in the state and will help in providing better living conditions for the people.
