Rep. Austin Scott, a Georgian member of the House Intelligence Committee, has announced his intention to run against Representative Jim Jordan of Ohio for the Republican nomination for House Speaker.
Scott in a tweet said, “I have filed to be Speaker of the House. We are in Washington to legislate, and I want to lead a House that functions in the best interest of the American people.”
With his campaign, Scott will go off against Jim Jordan, the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee (R-Ohio), who only lost out on Scalise’s initial nomination.
Scott called Jordan a “good friend” and said he wasn’t particularly interested in becoming the Speaker of the House in a statement to reporters.
Who is Austin Scott?
Austin Scott is an American politician associated with the Republican Party and has represented Georgia’s 8th congressional district in Congress since 2011. After graduating, Scott began his career as an insurance agent and later became the owner of his own insurance brokerage company.

He was elected to the Georgia House of Representatives in 1996 and held the position for 14 years. Scott was the chairman of the Governmental Affairs Committee for four years during his term. He moved to the US House of Representatives in 2010.
Scott participates actively in a number of committees in Congress, such as the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, the House Agriculture Committee, and the House Armed Services Committee. In addition, he chairs the House Agriculture Committee’s Subcommittee on General Farm Commodities, Risk Management, and Credit.
Scott, a well-known conservative Republican, is a fervent supporter of rural communities, agriculture, and national defense. He has expressed disapproval of the Biden administration and is a fervent supporter of former president Trump.
He lives in Tifton, Georgia, and is a married father of three children.
