Authorities have identified the suspect in the shooting that occurred over the weekend at the Texas State Fair. Cameron Turner, 22, is now charged with three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in connection with the incident, which injured three persons.

On Saturday evening, the shooting occurred in the food court of the Tower Building at the State Fair. While the victims were not seriously injured, the event drove fairgoers towards scurrying for safety.

According to arrest papers, camera evidence shows Cameron Turner purchasing a water bottle from a concession stand in the food court, away from his family. A bunch of men approached him at that point. Turner and one of the victims exchanged words as he sought to flee.

Turner then grabbed a revolver and opened fire, despite the fact that the victim had nothing in his hands at the moment. Turner later told cops he felt intimidated and went into “survival mode,” firing three to four shots. Unfortunately, the bullets struck the initial victim as well as two others.

Turner was apprehended after fleeing the area by two Texas state troopers and a Dallas police officer. He was caught while carrying a handgun.

While the arrest complaint does not describe what Turner perceived as a danger, the investigation is ongoing. Notably, one of the victims has opted not to cooperate with authorities.

In reaction to the incident, State Fair officials undertook a thorough evaluation of their security procedures. The fair’s laws restrict guns on the premises, with the exception of licensed gun owners. This year, the show included an open-gate weapons detecting system to improve security.

For fairgoers, an increased security presence will remain in place throughout the fair’s duration. The motive behind the shooting and how the suspect managed to bring a firearm onto the fairgrounds remain subjects of ongoing investigation.
