Cenk Uygur, the prominent political commentator and founder of “The Young Turks,” has thrust himself into the spotlight by openly considering a run for the presidency in 2024. This decision comes as a response to his deep concerns about the possibility of former President Donald Trump securing a second term, coupled with his perception of President Joe Biden as a weak incumbent. Uygur’s contemplation of a presidential bid has stirred significant intrigue and debate within political circles.
The revelation of Uygur’s aspirations unfolded during his appearance on “Breaking Points” with Krystal Ball and Saagar Enjeti, where he was promoting his latest book, titled “Justice is Coming.”
Toward the conclusion of the interview, the conversation shifted towards the possibility of California Governor Gavin Newsom launching a serious primary challenge against President Biden. Uygur swiftly dismissed this prospect, asserting that both Biden and Newsom fall within the category of “corporate Democrats” in his view.

Uygur’s underlying conviction is that a transformative force from outside the established political order is urgently needed. He claimed to have tried to persuade fellow progressives to take up this mantle but found no takers, leading him to seriously consider stepping into the fray himself.
With a sense of reluctance, Uygur remarked, “For God’s sake, don’t make me do it! Like, have someone else run. Right? But I can’t get anyone to do it.” He went on to articulate why he believes his own entry into the presidential race would be advantageous for the Democratic Party and could serve as a catalyst for a substantive challenge to Biden’s candidacy.
Central to Uygur’s argument is his conviction that mainstream media poses a significant obstacle to any left-wing challenge. He contended, “The mainstream media is the shock troops of corporate politicians, both corporate Democrats and corporate Republicans. Their job is to eviscerate any outsider.” Uygur’s concern is that the press would vigorously target and undermine any progressive candidate, making success an uphill battle.
