The person sought in connection with a triple murder that kept a Massachusetts town on edge for almost 48 hours has been apprehended.

During what appeared to be a random, bungled home invasion, Christopher Ferguson, 41, is accused of killing Jill and Bruno D’Amore, aged 73 and 74, as well as Jill’s mother, Lucia Arpino, age 97, at their Newton home, according to authorities.

Jill was killed by blunt force trauma and more than 30 stab wounds, according to Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan.

Because of this, as of Monday night, there was only one count of murder; however, the district attorney anticipates that would alter Tuesday after the autopsies of Bruno and Arpino are finished.

Ferguson, who is known to the police, was captured on surveillance camera around 5:20 a.m. “staggering” throughout the neighborhood without any clothes on. Ryan mentioned that Sunday.

She said the footage was around 100 yards from his home and about four-tenths of a mile away from the suspected murder scene, however it’s unclear if it showed the moments before or after the purported murders.

“There were obvious signs of a struggle in one of the bedrooms, including broken furniture and crystal paper weight covered with blood,” DA Ryan said. Police also found a blood-stained knife in the kitchen.

According to the district attorney, Ferguson doesn’t appear to have forced his way into the house through a window in the basement and has no known connections to the family.

According to Ryan, he allegedly left behind bloody footprints that resemble fingerprints and further connected him to the crime scene.

Ferguson was hospitalized following his arrest, but the county’s top prosecutors anticipate him to appear in court for his arraignment, with new charges added.

Residents were urged to secure their doors and windows and keep an eye out for anything strange as the police and district attorney concluded their press conference on Sunday night.
