Devota Gilmore, a teacher from Florida, was arrested on Sunday for allegedly pulling out a gun at a security officer after he was denied entry into a gated community. Gilmore allegedly tried to enter the community in Davenport, Florida, to gather his girlfriend’s belongings when he was stopped by security at the gate.

Who is Devonta Gilmore?

Devonta Gilmore is a 31-year-old man from Florida. He is a teacher of physical education at Union Academy Magnet School. At around 3 am on Sunday morning, he tried to enter a gated community in Davenport, Florida when he was told by the security officers at the gate that he was not on the visitor’s list and as a result he could not visit.

After Gilmore was allowed entry into the community, he tried to enter it via a different entrance. When the security officers tried to stop him again, he pulled out a gun and said: “You want this smoke? You want this smoke? You wanna bump?”

After showing the gun to the officer, Gilmore fled the scene and returned later in a car only to find deputies from Polk County Sheriff’s Office at the scene. When he saw them, he drove away and tried to escape. Police later found his car at a Publix store and took him into custody.

In a later interview with the deputies, Gilmore admitted to pulling out the gun. He said that by “you wanna bump?” he meant physically fighting with the security officers at the gate. He was initially charged with assault but was later released on a bond.
