General Mark Milley, the United States Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, confronted then-President Donald Trump about his lack of response to the January 6 riots, according to a video played by the House Select Committee on July 21, 2022.

“You are the commander-in-chief. You have got an assault going on the Capitol of the United States of America. And there is Nothing? No call? Nothing Zero?” he said in the clip played by the January 6 committee in its eighth session on Thursday.

Who is Mark Milley?

Mark Milley has been a part of the US armed forces for more than 35 years now. He has had multiple command and staff positions in eight divisions and Special Forces so far, and now holds the top position in the army.

Milley is a native of Winchester, Massachusetts. The decorated veteran also holds numerous educational qualifications. He first pursued Political Science at Princeton University and then moved on to Columbia University, where he pursued a Masters in International Relations. He is also a graduate of the MIT Seminar XXI National Security Studies Program.

According to the Association of the United States Army, Milley has been married to Hollyanne for over three decades now. They have two children together: Mary and Peter Milley.

Milley left the position of the 21st Commander of US Army Forces Command at Fort Bragg and was then appointed as the 39th Chief of Staff of the army in August 2015.

Through his decades-long career in the US armed forces, Milley has been given multiple prestigious awards and accolades. These include: Defense Superior Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Joint Chiefs of Staff Identification Badge, Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Meritorious Unit Commendation and the French Military Parachutist Badge.
