Gerald Malloy won his primary election bid in Vermont on Tuesday and secured the Republican nomination for US Senate. Malloy will be taking on Peter Welch in the midterm elections, seeking to take the office that will be vacated by Vermont’s veteran lawmaker Patrick Leahy. 

Gerald Malloy, 60, is an Army veteran but a political newcomer. He has also played a variety of sports throughout his college days, according to his campaign website.

Who is Gerald Malloy?

Gerald Malloy was born on 30 December 1961 in Boston. He graduated from Westwood High School. Later in his career, Malloy also earned an MBA from Temple and a Graduate Certificate under an MS Intelligence program from Georgetown.

Gerald Malloy’s career with the American armed forces lasted for more than 22 years. During this time, he served on US bases across the world, including those in Germany, Korea, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Kuwait, Jordan and Canada. He also served at Fort Bragg, North Carolina for five years.

At the end of his service term in 2006, Malloy was presented with the bronze star and seven meritorious service medals. His battalion in Kuwait was also given the Valorous Unit Award.

According to Gerald Malloy’s campaign website, he has been associated with various small and large-scale businesses in the last decade. During this time he has also acted liaison with multiple governmental organisations.

Gerald Malloy has been endorsed for the US Senate run by multiple conservative organisations. These include the Patriots for Freedom, Veterans for America First and United Christians for America. He also has an ‘AQ’ rating from the National Rifle Association.

He currently lives and works in Perkinsville, Vermont with his wife Stacey, an attorney. The couple has four children, three of whom are still in school.
