Huma Mahmood Abedin was born in Michigan USA on the July 28, 1975. Abedin is an American political staffer who was vice-chair of Hilary Clinton’s 2016 campaign. Prior to that, she was also a deputy chief to Clinton and was U.S Secretary of state from the year of 2009 to 2013.  She has spent her entire career in public service and national politics, beginning as an intern in First Lady Hillary Clinton’s office in 1996. 

Early Life 

Huma was born to professor parents in Michigan. She is of both Indian and Pakistani descent.  As a teenager, she aspired to be a journalist and wanted to work in the White House Press. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism along with Political Science as a minor.

Career  

Abedin began working as an intern in the White House in 1996. She also served as an assistant editor of the Journal of Minority Affairs from the year of 1996 to 2008.  In 2009, she was appointed Deputy Chief of Staff at the US Department of State. In 2012, she left the position and did consulting work for Teneo, a strategic consulting firm whose clients included CoCa-Cola, and MF Global. Huma served as Vice-Chair of ‘Hillary for America‘ campaign in 2016.  She screened and interviewed applicants for key campaign roles and was the primary communication channel with Clinton. 

Her book 

‘Both/And’ is her first book. This book is a memoir on her life. According to the New York Times, ‘Both/And’ is “the story of a person of substance—someone determined to tell her own story”. This book also includes the heartbreaking chronicle of her marriage to Anthony Weiner, his betrayals and the love they share for their son. 

Abedin featured in ‘Weiner’, 2016 documentary film about her former husband’s unsuccessful 2013 campaign for the New York mayor post.
