Israel Muyaya Madimba was charged with first- and second-degree murder in connection with the fatal attack last Friday in St. Cloud, roughly 65 miles northwest of Minneapolis, according to the Stearns County Attorney’s Office.

St. Cloud police officers responded to a report of a car striking a pedestrian shortly after 8 p.m. and discovered the 70-year-old man motionless, according to a news release.

The victim, Norbert John Olmscheid of St. Cloud, was given life-saving treatment. He was transferred to the hospital, where he died from his injuries, according to authorities.

According to an investigation, Madimba is suspected of stealing a car from the St. Cloud YMCA. Shortly after the alleged theft, Madimba allegedly saw the victim on the sidewalk between 9th Avenue and 6th Avenue North.

The driver “admitted he drove on the walking path and intentionally struck the victim,” according to police.

According to the criminal complaint, the suspect claimed to police that he turned onto the sidewalk and sped up behind the victim.

The criminal complaint stated that the defendant “admited listening to a song about murder and then striking the unsuspecting victim.”

According to the petition, witnesses supported his account. The precise reason is still being looked at, according to officials.

Madimba was brought to a safe juvenile detention facility before being taken to the Stearns County jail.
