James Burke, the former Suffolk County Police Chief who received harsh criticism for allowing his connections to sex workers to sabotage the Gilgo Beach murders investigation, has been detained for soliciting a sex worker.

Burke was known to frequent sex workers when he served as Chief in the Long Island, New York, community — from 2012 to 2015 — and many believe that’s why he botched the investigation into the Gilgo Beach murders — all of the victims were sex workers. Burke was arrested on Tuesday morning at Suffolk County’s Vietnam War Memorial.
