Jason D. Thomson, the superintendent of a New York school, was arrested for drunken driving on Saturday, October 8, in Syracuse, shortly after he was filmed crowd surfing among students during a high school football match. Police pulled Thomson over as he was leaving the game and charged him with DWI.

Police officials told local media that a Blood Alcohol Content of 0.15% was found in Thompson, which is twice the legally permitted limit of 0.8%. They also reportedly found Thompson’s front number plate missing.

After taking him into custody, police released Thompson on his own recognizance. He has a hearing scheduled for October 26.

Jason D. Thomson is the Superintendent of Baldwinsville Central School District in New York. A video of him crowd-surfing at a school football match went viral on social media on Saturday. The match was reportedly held at a school premise in Syracuse.

Police officials told media that Thomson was on their radar after he was spotted crowd surfing during the match. Shortly after the match was over, they spotted Thomson driving without a front plate and stopped him when he made a turn without using a turn signal. 

“Jason Thomson had been observed by numerous individuals, ‘crowd surfing’ in the student section of the bleachers,” a police statement said.

“Following the incident, several students reported to the district staff that they suspected that Mr. Thomson was under the influence of alcohol. This information was relayed to members of the Baldwinsville Police Department that were at the event.”

Reacting to the incident, the Baldwinsville Board of Education said that it “will take appropriate action if warranted.”

NBC affiliate local channel WTSM of Syracuse later reported that the board held a special meeting on Monday where “the employment history of a particular person or corporation” was discussed.
