Jeff Shell, NBCUniversal CEO, is leaving the company after an investigation into inappropriate conduct, NBC’s parent company Comcast announced on Sunday.
In a brief statement with Comcast, Shell said both parties “mutually agreed” that he will depart immediately in light of an investigation by outside counsel into a complaint of an inappropriate relationship with a woman in the company.

“I’m truly sorry I let my Comcast and NBCUniversal colleagues down, they are the most talented people in the business and the opportunity to work with them the last 19 years has been a privilege,” Shell said in the statement.
Who is Jeff Shell?
Jeff Shell is a media executive. He was appointed Chief Executive Officer of NBCUniversal in January 2020. He has been with the company since 2004.
Shell oversaw the company’s valuable portfolios of news, sports, and entertainment television networks, a premier motion picture company, significant television, and sports production operations, a leading television stations group, and world-renowned theme parks, according to the company website.
Previously, he was the chairman of NBCUniversal Film and Entertainment. In that profile, he handled the content creation, including the programming and distribution engines behind the company’s film and network television businesses.

Jeff Shell was born in 1967 in Michigan, US. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Economics and Applied Mathematics from the University of California, Berkeley.
He earned a Master’s degree in Business Administration from Harvard University.

Shell is married to Laura Fay Shell. Until 2005, Laura worked as a planning deputy for Los Angeles County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky.
He served as president of FOX Cable Network Group in 2001. He was the CEO of Gemstar TV Guide International. Later, he served as president of Comcast Programming Group. He also held leadership positions at Salomon Brothers and The Walt Disney Company.

Since 2013, Shell served as Chairman of Universal Filmed Entertainment Group (UFEG). Before joining UFEG, he was the Chairman of NBCUniversal International.
