An 18-year-old man was detained by Baltimore County police in connection with Monday’s triple shooting at a Catonsville motel that claimed one life. Jose Diaz-Contrenas was the suspect, according to county police on Tuesday.

Who is Jose Diaz-Contrenas?

Jose Diaz-Contrenas is an 18-year-old teenager who has been identified as the suspect in the shooting at the Catonsville motel. The Indiana construction worker has been charged with first-degree murder and attempted murder, leaving one man dead and two injured early Monday morning.

Police claimed that this was an isolated incident based on their investigation. Diaz-Contrenas is still being held without bond at the Baltimore County Detention Facility.

Officers allegedly discovered Dias-Contrenas wandering around the motel’s parking area. Officers were able to collect surveillance footage that depicts a suspect taking a weapon out from beneath his jacket and firing multiple shots at the victims.

Additionally, according to court documents, he admitted to the shooting and said that “he could not stop” from continuing to shoot the victims. The possible causes of the gunshots were not disclosed by the investigators because they claimed that it was still under investigation.

According to authorities, Javier Argueta Hernandez, 30, died in the triple shooting. A 25-year-old male was brought to Sinai Hospital, while a 19-year-old man was transferred to Shock Trauma with life-threatening injuries. On Tuesday, inquiries on the two victims’ health went unanswered by the county police.

There was no attorney listed in court documents for Diaz Contrenas. Judge Karen A. Pilarski of the Baltimore County District Court mandated that he be detained without bail. On June 23, a preliminary hearing will take place.
