Republican Kevin Hern of Oklahoma announced his candidacy for House Majority Leader shortly after House Republicans selected Steve Scalise, the incumbent Majority Leader from Louisiana, for Speaker of the House.

Hern while making a post on X announced his bid. The tweet, “I am running for Majority Leader. Once we unify and elect a Speaker, our leadership team will need a policy-focused conservative Majority Leader. I promise you no one will outwork me, listen more carefully, or advance the Republican legislative agenda more faithfully than me.”

Who is Kevin Hern?

Kevin Hern is a well-known Republican Party politician and prosperous businessman in the United States. Hern was born into a family connected to the Air Force, and his early years were spent moving about the country a lot. 

He continued his studies at Oklahoma State University after graduating from high school, earning a degree in aerospace engineering there. He then started working for Rockwell International as an aircraft engineer.

Hern began his business career in 1986 when he founded Hern Plumbing, Inc. The business expanded quickly to become one of Oklahoma’s biggest plumbing companies. Hern also expanded the range of businesses he owned by getting involved in technology and real estate development.

Kevin Hern ran for Oklahoma’s first congressional district in the 2018 U.S. House of Representatives race. In the Republican primary and general election, he emerged victorious. Hern took office on January 3, 2019, and was sworn in officially.

Hern is an active member of the Republican Study Committee in the House, which is made up of conservative legislators. In addition, the House Financial Services Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee chairmanship is currently held by him.

Hern has faced controversy throughout his political career. He’s been in the news for his hardline conservative views and has come under fire for some of his business dealings.
