A woman from New Jersey identified as Maria Macburnie was detained on Wednesday on suspicion of pretending to be a doctor and reportedly indulging in the illegal practice of prescribing medication to people.

The prosecutor’s office stated that the New Jersey lady was charged with engaging in the unlawful act of recommending drugs to patients. The prescriptions, which included those for banned dangerous medications, allegedly bore the name of one of her cousins.

Who is Maria Macburnie? 

Maria Macburnie is 62 years old. She hails from New Jersey. According to information from the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, She has been accused of committing a number of significant charges because of her alleged activities. The accusations include three counts of supplying controlled dangerous medications, forging documents, health care claim fraud, and practicing medicine without a license.

Bradley D. Billhimer, the Ocean County prosecutor, and Cheryl Ortiz, the special agent in charge of the Drug Enforcement Administration’s New Jersey Division, jointly announced the charges against the woman.

The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office claimed that from March 2022 through June 2023, Macburnie provided medical care to patients at Shore Medical Associates in Toms River, New Jersey. She is accused of impersonating a licensed medical professional during this time by using the name of a relative who holds a valid license. Her acts have resulted in accusations against her for forgery, health care claims fraud, distribution of regulated dangerous medications and practicing medicine without a license.

In addition to being accused of dispensing prohibited dangerous medications and practicing medicine without a license, the lady is also suspected of invoicing insurance for the supposedly supplied medical services. Macburnie was brought into jail and lodged in the Ocean County Jail following her arrest on Wednesday. A detention hearing is currently scheduled for her. As of now, there is no confirmation whether Macburnie has retained legal counsel in response to the accusations leveled against her.
