Who is Mario Najara?

Mario Najara is a homeless 31-year-old who has been named as the suspect in this crime. He has been detained on suspicion of robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, and attempted murder. His bail has been set at $1,000,000. Just before noon on Tuesday, he was shot once by police in the area of Second Street and Quincy Avenue.

Officers were called to the vicinity of Livingston Drive and Park Avenue on May 30, 2023, at around 11:56 a.m., in response to a stabbing report. Numerous requests for assistance were placed to police dispatch, and the callers described a male adult suspect who was carrying a knife and actively stabbing and assaulting people.

Within five minutes following the initial contact for assistance, officers showed up. When they arrived, authorities discovered that a man and a woman had been assaulted or struck by the suspect rather than being stabbed. The accused then moved a short distance away and attacked a man in Livingston Park who was holding a 2-year-old child, resulting in him dropping the child and falling to the ground. The man was then allegedly repeatedly stabbed in the lower torso by the suspect.

After some time, the police discovered the suspect that the calling parties had described. Officers also saw that he was carrying an unidentified weapon.

The suspect started backing away from them as they tried to defuse the situation. An officer shot the suspect when he tried to enter a residential building despite officers’ repeated requests for him to drop the firearm.

Police say that the offender then stabbed another individual in the upper torso close to Second Street. With non-life-threatening wounds, the suspect and one of the men who was stabbed were both taken to a hospital.
