The January 6 committee is set to hold another public meeting on Thursday, October 13 2022.

The hearing, according to the Washington Post, will reportedly focus on newly obtained Secret Service documents which show that former US president Donald Trump was made aware of the potential violence, but decided to keep fanning the flames.

The TV-star-turned-politician continued to push the conspiracy theory that the 2020 presidential elections were rigged. As a result of his actions and communications, several thousand people rioted at Capitol Hill which led to the death of one rioter and 138 police officers suffering injuries.

The House committee investigating the attacks will have no in-person witnesses testify on Thursday, according to a report from CNN. However, pre-taped interviews with former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and former  Secretary of Treasury Steve Mnuchin are expected to air.

Who is Mike Pompeo?

Michael Richard Pompeo is an American politician and businessman who served as the director of the Central Intelligence Agency from 2017 to 2018 and then as Secretary of State to the Donald Trump administration from 2018 to 2021.

The Harvard-educated attorney who was once severely critical of the former US president, became one of his biggest supporters following Trump being selected as a nominee in the 2016 presidential election.

Following Trump’s refusal to concede the 2020 presidential elections, Pompeo said that there would be a “smooth transition” to the Joe Biden administration. However, when the January 6 riots at Capitol Hill happened, several of Trump’s Cabinet members resigned while Pompeo continued to defend the former president. The former Secretary of State criticized the news media and complained about ‘censorship’ of conservatives.

Born in Orange, California on December 30, 1963, Pompeo grew up in Fountain Valley before attending the United States Military Academy at West Point. He served as an officer during his five year service before attending Harvard Law School and earning his Juris Doctor degree.
