Miles Bryant, a 22-year-old police officer from Doraville, Georgia, has been charged with the kidnapping and murder of Susana Morales after a gun he reported missing was found near her skeletal remains, CBS News reported.

The Gwinnett County Police Department said that Bryant was already facing charges of concealing a death and false report of a crime in relation to Morales’ disappearance on February 6. J.D. McClure, Chief of Gwinnett police, announced on Wednesday that Bryant’s charges would be upgraded to felony murder and kidnapping.

Who is Miles Bryant?

Miles Bryant is a former police officer in the Atlanta suburb of Doraville, Georgia.

He was removed from office after being convicted of felony murder and kidnapping of 16-year-old Susana Morales.

Susana was reported missing by her family on the morning of July 27, the day after she was last seen. On the night of July 26, she had left her home in Norcross at 6 p.m. to meet a friend at the Sterling Glen Apartments, where she stayed for about four hours.

She left the complex at around 10 p.m. and had an interaction with an individual, believed to be Bryant, between 10 and 10:30 p.m. McClure, the Gwinnett County Police Department spokesman, said that this was the last time Susana was seen or heard from. Police believe that Susana died sometime between her interaction with Bryant and 2 a.m. on July 27.

While it’s not clear if Susana and Bryant knew each other, he lived in the same apartment complex that she had visited earlier that day and was a courtesy officer there. McClure added that the cause of Susana’s death is not definitively known, but there is no indication that she was shot. It’s possible that she was raped, he said.
