Survivor winner Nick Wilson has emerged winner in the race for the Kentucky House of Representatives, the 82nd District. Wilson announced that he was running for a seat back in November.

He was running unopposed in his 82nd district, which includes his hometown of Williamsburg. Wilson, who is a Republican, was endorsed by retiring incumbent Regina Huff.

Who is Nick Wilson? 

Nick Wilson grew up in Williamsburg, Kentucky, where he and his four siblings were raised by his grandmother after his parent’s divorce. 

He was the first graduate of his family. He completed his Bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Kentucky.

He went on to the University of Alabama School of Law and graduated to become a public defender. He lost his mother to a drug overdose.

The former public defender is best known for competing on the reality competition show Survivor. He was voted the winner of the show’s 37th season, Survivor: David vs. Goliath, in 2018, and returned in 2020 for the 40th season, Survivor: Winners at War, to compete against former winners. He finished in 7th place.

He felt a responsibility to return to his hometown after his mother’s passing in order to help his community. Wilson became a public defender in his hometown focusing on fighting the opioid epidemic. In January 2019, he started a new position with the Kentucky Commonwealth’s Attorney Office.

On January 14, 2019, Wilson received the key to the city of Williamsburg and was given his own day, “Nick Wilson Day” on January 16.

Wilson is married to Grisel Vilchez.
