Paul Buskirk is a registered Democrat who has decided to run for the U.S. Senate. The primaries and the mid-term elections are Buskirk’s first run for public office.

He is currently employed by the University of Kansas Athletics department as their Academic Support Director. Buskirk happens to be an alumnus of the University of Kansas where he completed his Master’s degree in Education. The first time politician has been working in education for the last 37 years. Buskirk lives in Lawrence, the seat of Douglas County and the sixth largest state in Kansas. He is married to his wife Lauren and they have two daughters, Sierra and Maria.

Buskirk first decided to run for the U.S. Senate for the state of Kansas when the Supreme Court’s draft decision to overturn Roe v. Wade was leaked to the press on May 2, 2022, according to his website, buskirkussenate.com.

He says that the primary platform that he is running on is in support of children. Buskirk is in support of expanding education as well as providing more support for adoption services. At the same time, he states that while he is in support of women’s abortion rights his “passionate hope”  is that women consider alternatives such as adoption. The country’s “children and youth must be first and forefront in all our priorities,” according to a ksn.com questionnaire answered by the Democrat.

Buskirk acknowledges that the U.S. economy was affected during the COVID-19 pandemic because of which many working-class families needed to be helped. To do so, elected politicians need to target “needy members of our community” by providing subsidies, tax rebates, food pantries as well as help provided by civic and religious charities.

Another issue that the KU alumnus is passionate about is LGBTQ rights, he says that he is in support of them and that “individual rights must be affirmed and actively protected.”

Buskirk  is one of six Democrats and one Republican all gunning for the Senate seat currently held by Republican Jerry Moran. The primaries for Kansas, Washington, Michigan, Missouri, Arizona and Ohio are on August 2, 2022 with the mid-term elections beginning on November 8, 2022.
