After Rep. Kevin McCarthy was recently removed from the position, Jim Jordan, the chair of the House Judiciary Committee and a steadfast supporter of Trump, announced that he would run for speaker of the House. However, Jordan’s staunch conservatism might make it difficult for him to win over Republicans in the middle. He would be the first House Republican to do so.

Jordan, a staunch supporter of former President Donald Trump, declared that if he were to be elected speaker, he would be against giving Ukraine military assistance. Right-wing Republicans who recently voted to fire McCarthy share this viewpoint. Jordan highlighted that, in his opinion, the situation at the U.S.-Mexico border and issues with street violence are more urgent worries for Americans than Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
