According to state police, a woman who is accused of shooting the district attorney for a small county in central Pennsylvania has been charged with aggravated assault and other offences.
Shortly after the shooting on Wednesday at Paul Malizia’s law office, the district attorney for Cameron County, Porice Diamond Mincy, 31, of Emporium, was detained. He was brought to a hospital after sustaining a leg wound. He was released from the hospital and was in stable condition, according to the police’s statement on Thursday.
The shooting, which is still being investigated, did not result in any additional injuries.
State police said the shooting appeared to be a “isolated incident” and posed no threat to the community, but they did not provide any information or speculate on a potential motivation.
Late on Wednesday night, Malizia thanked locals for their concern over “today’s most unfortunate events” in a social media post and announced that he will keep his position as district attorney.
Around 3 pm, troopers were called to the Emporium legal firm, but Mincy had already allegedly driven off in a car. Her capture’s specifics weren’t made public.
Mincy is claiming she only bit him and never touched a handgun, court documents show.
The affidavit claims that Mincy entered the District Attorney’s office on June 14 before three o’clock in the afternoon and was causing a ruckus. Witnesses in the office claimed that Mincy was irate because Malizia handled her sister’s house deed and a $1,000 deposit on her behalf.
Malizia told detectives that Mincy was agitated and that he tried to get her out of the building after he spoke with Malizia at the hospital. He told the police that Mincy entered his office and began hurling books, papers, and other stuff off of his desk about. To get Mincy out of the office, according to Malizia, he allegedly grabbed her by the arm and a section of her hair.
He said that Mincy had punched him in the face and that he had attempted to strike back. Before they reached the hallway, when Mincy reportedly held a revolver to his right outer thigh and fired the trigger, he claimed she bit his inner thigh. This is documented in the affidavit.
Mincy is currently accused of numerous counts of severe assault, reckless endangerment, gun possession, carrying a gun without a permission, possession of a weapon used in a crime, and other less serious crimes.
Mincy was refused bail on the grounds that she poses a risk to others and has no connection to Cameron County.
A preliminary hearing for Mincy is scheduled for June 22.
