Ralph Yarl is a 16-year-old black teenager who was shot in the head twice after mistakenly going to the wrong house in Kansas City, Missouri, on Thursday night. According to his family, he had gone to pick up his twin brothers from a friend’s house and had pulled into the driveway of what he thought was the correct home. Yarl is a scholar at his high school and aspired to study chemical engineering at Texas A&M University. Ralph is also a musician and is part of his school’s marching, jazz, and competition band. He is one of the top bass clarinet players in Missouri and has been recognized as a Missouri scholar academy alumnus.
Despite being shot twice, Ralph managed to escape and run to a neighbor’s house for help. He was eventually taken to the hospital, where he is currently recovering from his injuries. The incident has been labeled a “hate crime” by Ralph’s family, who believe that race played a significant role in the shooting. Ralph is described by his family and peers as a talented and intelligent young man.
