Samantha Hyde’s picture – a 4chan meme – is going viral on social media after the Covenant School, Nashville shooting on Monday. Several Twitter users are spreading misinformation, calling her the 28-year-old suspect.
Authorities confirmed that three students and as many staff members died in the mass shooting incident. The suspect, identified as a 28-year-old woman, is also dead. US Attorney General Merrick Garland was briefed on the incident, according to a Justice Department spokesperson.
The shooter was once a student at the school, according to initial findings from police. Metro Nashville Police Chief John Drake, in a press conference, said, “From my initial findings, at one point, she was a student at that school.”
However, the suspect has not been identified yet. Many on social media are talking about Samantha Hyde being the shooter. It is untrue.

“Nashville Police have positively identified the corpse of the suspected Nashville Covenant School shooter as 31 year old Samantha Hyde. Social media posts indicate Samantha was a trans woman who previously went by the name Samuel,” a Twitter user said.
“If you see that the shooter’s name is Samantha Hyde and is a MtF transwoman, that’s a lie. It’s a fake image and a MAGA disinformation tactic after every mass shooting. The real image is of Sam Hyde,” one more added.
“Beware of hoax claims that the Nashville shooter was Samantha Hyde — a spin-off of a 4chan meme about comedian Sam Hyde that spreads after mass shootings — or Clara Sorrenti, a Canadian trans activist and Twitch streamer known as “Keffals” who has been targeted by hate campaigns,” a third one tweeted.
Samantha Hyde or Sam Hyde has trended after almost all mass shootings recently – during Parkland, Las Vegas, San Bernardino and more.
Sam Hyde is a comedian and a meme in the 4chan community, Buzzfeed notes.
Hyde is the star of Million Dollar Extreme Presents: World Peace, a former hit show on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim comedy line-up. As per concentric.io, he is closely aligned with the alt-right.
