The person who was taken into custody in connection with the shooting that took place during a Memorial Day festival in Oklahoma early Sunday has been identified by authorities as Skylar Dewayne Buckner. 

Authorities said at least one person was killed and seven others were injured in the shooting at an event near Taft, which is about 10 miles southeast of Tulsa. Two juveniles were among the injured. The condition of the victims was not known. 

On Sunday afternoon, Skylar Dewayne Buckner surrendered to the Muskogee County Sheriff’s Office and the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, Muskogee County District Attorney Larry Edwards said. Buckner is currently being booked into the Muskogee County jail. The motive behind the shooting was not known, however, local reports stated that an argument preceded the gunfire.

The Muskogee County District Attorney’s Office was investigating the shooting.

The scheduled parade and the remainder of the festival have been cancelled.

Meanwhile, Muskogee Mayor Marlon Coleman offered prayers to the neighboring town, saying, “The neighboring town of Taft Oklahoma is a part of our Muskogee community, and we are praying for the people of Taft and all of the families involved in this weekend’s senseless shooting, especially for the families of the bereaved and the many children left traumatized from this tragic episode.”
