Uatu the Watcher is the narrator of Marvel’s What If…? And was created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby.

Uatu was first established as a mysterious being with unknowable cosmic powers in the character’s first appearance in Fantastic Four #13 in April 1963.

Uatu is referred to as the Watcher because he comes from a race called the Watchers, one of the most ancient and advanced races in the cosmos.

In Fantastic Four #13, Uatu was first introduced while officiating a fight between Marvel Comics’ first family and the Red Ghost on Earth’s moon.

Uatu the Watcher is known to have significant psionic powers.

Uatu is capable of flying, making telepathic connections, manipulating energy, casting illusions and a lot more.

The Watchers are known to be the first technologically advanced beings to evolve in the universe.

The alien species have taken it upon themselves to monitor, record, but never interfere with events as they unfurl across the Marvel Multiverse.

They operate similar to the Time Variance Authority as shown in Loki.

The Watcher’s power lies in the fact that he knows everything – the past, the present, the potential and even his ability to gaze upon “what might have been”.

Voiced by Jeffrey Wright, Uatu positions himself in an unlikely role as the host of Marvel Comics’ What If…? comic book series.

Uatu establishes their presence as the Watcher Marvel’s What If…?, inviting viewers in each episode to join him in observing a world quite different than already known.

Jeffrey Wright, who played Uatu, has won a Tony, a Golden Globe, and an Emmy for playing the role of Belize in the Broadway production of Angels in America.

Wright will also play Commissioner Gordon in the upcoming The Batman movie.
