Tennesse Titans offensive coordinator, Todd Downing, was arrested in greater Nashville on Friday morning by the Tennessee Highway Patrol for driving under influence and overspeeding. 

The 42-year-old NFL coach was stopped at Williamson County along Interstate 65 near Moores Lane. The preliminary report says that a trooper patrolling I-65 southbound spotted Downing vehicles at high speed at around 2:30 am and stopped in.

“The trooper observed signs of impairment and the smell of an intoxicant coming from the vehicle,” the report said, which led to his arrest. 

Following his arrest, he was kept at the Williamson County Jail and was later released on bond at around 6:46 a.m. Friday. 

The Tennessee Titans have not commented on the issue so far.

Who is Todd Downing?

Todd Downing was born on July 22, 1980, Eden Prairie, Minnesota. From 2000 to 2002, he was the quarterback for the semi-pro team Minnesota Maulers. Todd helped the Maulers to three consecutive championship games while playing both defensive back and quarterback.

His first coaching job was as an assistant at Eden Prairie High School where he coached the 9th grade B team in offense. He joined the Minnesota Vikings as an intern in 2001, he worked in public relations, football analysis, and offensive quality control.

Before joining the Titans on January 26, 2019, he had stints with the St. Louis Rams, Detroit Lions, Buffalo Bills, and Oakland Raiders. He also had a brief second stint with the Vikings starting in February 2018 where he worked as their senior offensive analyst.

He is married to Julie, and they have a son named Jackson.
