Who is Tyler Kennedy Deel?
Tyler Kennedy Deel is the suspect who died at the hands of the sheriff’s deputy in a SouthEast Fresno shooting. The incident happened around 4 p.m. near the intersection of Clovis and Balch Avenues in southeast Fresno. When Deel became aggressive and brandished a knife at family members, someone called the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office.
According to the sheriff’s office, a deputy responded to the complaint within ten minutes and discovered Deel carrying a five-foot tree branch wandering close to a retail center on the northeast corner of Kings Canyon Road and Clovis Avenue.

Deel was told to drop the branch and submit after the constable pulled his patrol car into the mall. According to the sheriff’s office, Deel took a knife from his pocket and hurled it at the constable, missing him.
With a branch from a tree, Deel charged the constable. The constable then turned around and fired several times, hitting Deel. He was pronounced dead at the scene, behind a Valero petrol station. According to the officials, the police officer was unharmed. The deputy-involved shooting is being investigated by the Fresno Police Department because it took place inside the city’s boundaries.

“When you have one deputy, they don’t get the luxury of, you know, only coming with less lethal. Usually, when you have multiples, you have somebody that’s less lethal, and then a lethal cover. In this case, it transpired so quickly. He was alone by himself,” said Tony Botti with the sheriff’s office.
Deel had previously engaged in violent altercations with authorities of the law. He was detained for assaulting a police officer in September 2015 while working at a McDonald’s near Kings Canyon Road and Clovis Avenue. The suspect died of his injuries at the scene.
