Once again, Casey DeSantis, wife of Gov. Ron DeSantis, is being disparaged in the media as an inferior copy of former first lady Melania Trump. Due to this, she was termed as ‘Walmart Melania’. In the sweltering heat of Iowa, she wore a leather jacket that read “Where woke goes to die” over an alligator and a map of Florida.
Donald Trump’s presidency saw the separation of immigrant families from their children. At the time, Melania Trump wore a jacket that said “I really don’t care. Do you?”
“The First Lady of Florida showed up on the campaign trail in Iowa this weekend wearing a ghastly black leather jacket—American flag on the front, an alligator and the silhouette of her state on the back, with the sneering words, ‘Where Woke Goes to Die’—that brought to mind nothing so much as the racks of a Red State big-bin store where it would be retailing for $24.99,” Baker, an executive editor at the Daily Beast, wrote.

“Casey DeSantis’ coat is just like her husband Ron DeSantis’ campaign: Crude. Grasping. Saying the ugly part out loud,” the op-ed continued. “DeSantis wants to peel off Trump’s base by being even more explicit about who he intends to target. You can see it right there on his wife’s jacket: DeSantis’ Florida is where the woke go to die—and a lot of other people die as well.”
The reference of the quote on Casey’s jacket could be the fact that while DeSantis frequently invokes the term “woke”, his main rival Trump recently said: “I don’t like the term ‘woke,’ because I hear the term ‘woke woke woke’ — it’s just a term they use. Half the people can’t define it. They don’t know what it is.”

In response, Mr. DeSantis stated to the media on Saturday that “Woke is an existential threat to our society. To say it’s not a big deal, that just shows you don’t understand what a lot of these issues are right now”.
