A father who lost his wife and 9-year-old child in a mass shooting in their Texas neighborhood has spoken up about the terrifying incident and his wife’s bravery. Wilson Garcia talked to reporters regarding the suspect, Francisco Oropesa, who was shooting his weapon in his yard on Friday at a vigil on Sunday.

Francisco Oropeza, a wanted fugitive who is still at large, is accused of breaking into Garcia’s home and killing five people.

“I told my wife, Get inside. This man has loaded his weapon,” Garcia told his wife Sonia Guzman at the time of the incident, to which Guzman said – “he won’t fire at me, I’m a woman.”

Sonia Guzman, his wife, passed away first. Jonathan Caceres, 18, Daniel Enrique Laso Guzman, 9, and adults Diana Velasquez and Obdulia Molina were also shot and died inside the house.

Garcia said he is trying to be strong for his 1-month-old and 2-year-old daughters after losing his wife and one of his children. “My daughter sort of understands. It is very difficult when she begins to ask for mama and for her brother,” he said.
