Colorado officials have released police body camera footage from a fugitive suspect being tasered on a major interstate and then being fatally run over.

Sheriffs stopped Brent Allen Thompson, 28, of Loveland, on February 18. He provided them with a false name, which they checked through their system to confirm was a lie before confronting him.

Two officers were pursuing Thompson when he took off sprinting across the I-25 and was subsequently discovered to have drugs in his car. Thompson ran across the grass dividing the two lanes after leaping the barrier by the side of the road. He crossed over the second barricade to get back on the road, at which point Deputy Lorenzo Lujan tasered him.

Thompson was dragged off the road by Lujan and his colleague, who then started performing CPR until an ambulance arrived. Although he was unable to detect a pulse, one of the EMTs claimed to have seen Thompson’s eyes flutter. Thompson died in a hospital.

The Thompson family was outraged by the Larimer County District Attorney’s Office’s announcement last week that no criminal charges will be filed against Lujan.

The district attorney, Gordon McLaughlin, stated that following an investigation and review of Colorado law, it was determined that there was “no reasonable likelihood of success” in establishing beyond a reasonable doubt that Deputy Lorenzo Lujan was criminally responsible for his attempt to have Brent Thompson arrested.

The family said it plans to sue the Larimer County sheriffs in court; on Wednesday. Siddhartha Rathod, the family’s attorney, announced that the video was being made public in order to document what transpired. Rathod described Lujan’s behavior as irrational and careless.
