The mass shooting that took place at a bank in downtown Louisville on Monday has claimed a fifth fatality, according to the local police force. In a tweet sent just after 9 p.m., Louisville Metro Police named the victim as Deana Eckert.

Who was Deana Eckert?

Deana Eckert, 57, died Monday night, Louisville Metro Police spokesman Aaron Ellis said. Eckert had been admitted to the hospital earlier that day after the shooting, which also claimed the lives of the shooter and five other individuals. According to her public Facebook page, she graduated from Western Kentucky University and worked as an executive administrative officer for the bank.

Police have now released the following names of the deceased: Deana Eckert, 57; Joshua Barrick, 40; Thomas Elliot, 63; Juliana Farmer, 45; and James Tutt, 64. Andy Beshear, the governor of Kentucky, was good friends with Elliott. “I have a very good friend who didn’t make it today.” a visibly emotional Andy Beshear told reporters in a news briefing. “He helped me become governor,” Beshear added, describing Elliott as ‘an incredible friend’.

The man who has been identified as the shooter was also killed by officers. Police identified the assailant as 25-year-old Connor Sturgeon, a former employee of the bank. Police have not disclosed Sturgeon’s motivation, but they have established that he used a rifle and live-streamed the incident on social media.

Eight other people were also wounded, including three police officers, LMPD Chief Jacquelyn Gwinn-Villaroel said at a 3 p.m. press conference. Officer Nickolas Wilt, 26, was shot in the head while rushing to the scene and underwent brain surgery at the University of Louisville Hospital. He is still in serious condition. According to Gwinn-Villaroel, Wilt was only sworn in as an LMPD officer ten days ago.

Additionally, one officer sustained a slight left-side graze, and another sustained a minor elbow injury.
