Elijah Garcia, a 12-year-old boy from New Jersey, died after collapsing during football practice.
Elijah Garcia, a sixth-grader at KIPP Rising Academy in Newark, fell and lost consciousness on February 10 while participating in drills, according to his family and a school representative. The cause of death has not yet been officially stated.
“He was so happy to be there. He didn’t know that it was going to be his last day,” according to his mother.

Who is Elijah Garcia?
Elijah Jordan Brown-Garcia was born in 2011. He was a student at KIPP Rise Academy in Newark. He died after collapsing during football practice on Friday, February 17, 2023. Elijah Jordan was remembered as a “kind, outgoing student who was a friend to all” by his school.
The incident infuriated the child’s family, who claimed that none of the coaches at the training camp knew how to perform CPR. He allegedly collapsed during a training session, causing panic among the coaches.

The middle-10-year-old schooler’s brother called his parents to inform them of the situation, according to the New York Post. The parents were informed that none of the adults present knew CPR and that they were attempting to dial 911.
Elijah Jordan’s mother Raven Brown stated that the ambulance took a long time to arrive at the scene. “Someone on the phone for 911 or an ambulance should have said to do palpitations on his chest,” she told WSAZ.
The child was then taken to Newark’s University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
His coaches informed Raven Brown shortly after her son’s death that they had no knowledge of CPR.
Elijah was a member of the Essex County Predators. Brown stated that he was at practise with his 10-year-old brother, who called to inform her that Elijah was not responding.
